Project Description

Dr. Atiar Rahaman Molla is presently working as a Principal Scientist at the CSIR- Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute, Kolkata, a National Laboratory under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, where he started his research career as a Junior Scientist in 2001. He is an Associate Professor of the Engineering Faculty of the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research. He obtained his B. Tech in Ceramic Technology from the University of Calcutta and M. Tech in Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur prior to obtaining his PhD in Engineering from the Jadavpur University, Kolkata. He worked at the Federal University of Sao Carlos, Brazil for about six months as a Visiting Scientist in 2015. His major areas of research interests include specialty glasses and glass-ceramics, particularly on high strength glasses and glass-ceramics, glass-ceramics for energy storage and photonics applications, chalcogenide glasses for diamond processing and thermal imaging applications and utilization of wastes for synthesis of glasses and or glass-ceramics. He has published more than 50 papers in international journals of repute, has 7 granted patents in India, China, Germany, Turkey, European Union, Indonesia, and Malaysia on “Energy efficient soda lime silicate glass compositions using borax pentahydrate” and contributed for 3 book chapters. He is also an Editor of the book titled: “Glasses and Glass-ceramics – Advanced Processing and Applications” to be published by Springer Nature, Singapore and a Guest Editor of Frontiers in Materials. He is representing India as a member of the technical committee (TC-23) on Education in the International Commission on Glass (ICG) and a council member of the ICG for the UN International Year of Glass 2022.
